My heart goes out to you and your family. I met Omar through Phil up at Oak Island Resort many years ago. For the past 4 years, Omar has taken Myself and friend Patty out fishing. He says its the highlight of his vacation. We come back with many stories and fond memories every time. This tradition will be deeply missed and a hole will remain in our hearts forever. It was our pleasure to get to know Omar, his friends, and his family. Our life is more complete knowing them. God bless and we will keep Omar alive with our memories. He will be shining down on all of us and his smile will never be forgotten.
Jay Keesling says
Phil & Dana and all extended members of the Voelkel family. It is with deep sorrow that the Keesling family learns of the passing of your dad and my friend, Omer. Omer & Joann, Phil & Dana who lived across the street from us for those many years after we moved to Oaklandon, and Omer who did mechanic work on all our autos during the early years when he worked from his garage after leaving Borden, became a good friend early in my life. Omer who loved to bowl, sponsored a team on which I bowled for so many years at Hindel Lanes. When his business ventures brought him to the point that he needed an accountant, I began handling his books and continued that service while he built and moved his business into Voelkel’s Body Shop just down the street from our residences. Omer took me fishing with him on many occasions despite my lack of fishing skills and his expertise. We shared many good times together. Monika and I will miss his presence but we will retain our memories of him forever. I am saddened that I will be unavailable for either the viewing or the funeral but my thoughts and prayers will be with you during this trying time. Jay & for Monika, Kim & Whitney.
Oak Island Resort says
The Voelkels,
Omer will be so missed up here at Oak Island Resort, one of those guys that made you realize why you are in this business. Omer was always so happy go-lucky and loved Lake of the Woods so much! Never saw Omer get too excited, even when a storm sank his boat, he still had that positive attitude and wonderful smile! Seemed like he always took one day or even one minute at a time and always looked at the good things. We will really, really miss Omer up here! God Bless!

Omer was a great guy and terrific neighbor. Anything he even thought you needed -he was there. Helped me with the shed I was building.Everyday I came home from work and he had done something new to that shed. He treated you like he knew you your whole life. He will truly be missed.

We are very sorry for the loss of your Dad. We enjoyed talking to him when he worked in the garage behind the house we rented from you. He was always so nice to our kids when they would ride their bikes up and ’bug’ him while he was working on a project. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of great loss for you and your family.

Regretfully I only had a few times to sit and talk with Omer at Lake of the Woods. What a joy he was to be around. My sympathy goes out to all.

Dana and Phil:
I have thought of your dad many many times over the years since I left Voekels Body Shop. Omer meant so much to me and he always told me I was the daughter he never had. I just spoke of him a couple of weeks ago talking to a friend here at work. I was deeply saddened when I read about his passing in the paper. I couldn’t get him out of my mind. He was so good to me and I will always love him for that. He will be greatly missed but Heaven received a precious gift that day. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
Love,
Lisa Hunt and family

Louis A Simpson says
I am sorry to hear of Omers passing. I considered him a good man and friend. I am glad he was able to enjoy doing things he wanted to do after fighting the good fight in the collision repair business. Not everyone can pull that off. Not only was Omer a good man he left behind a good legacy of family that share his honesty, character and ethics. The world will be lesser place without Omer in it.
